Applying for and opening a new credit card may temporarily lower your credit score with a "hard" credit inquiry and by impacting your average age of open accounts.  Carrying a balance, even temporarily with a 0% APR offer, may temporarily lower your credit score by impacting your credit utilization ratio.

Student Credit Cards

You must be 18 years old in the U.S. to sign up for your own credit card. The Credit CARD Act of 2009 requires persons under 21 years old to either have a cosigner or provide proof of income or regular allowances in order to be approved for a first credit card. Secured credit cards and student credit cards offer better chances of approval for people with no credit history. All of the credit cards listed below are student versions of popular credit cards and may have lower rewards or lower signup bonuses.
